Chris Smithson for Council

Southern Pines, North Carolina

Accomplishments

While I do not pretend to take full credit for the following items, I believe they would not necessarily have happened without my support and efforts.

Waynor Road Community- The Waynor Rd. community is a mostly minority community located by the airport. While they are in Southern Pines' Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ), they are not within the Corporate Limits and therefore do not receive most Town services including water, sewer, and trash pickup. Commercial Architectural Standards- I have pushed for better commercial architectural standards since I first joined the Council. While there was initial internal resistance, I kept pushing. We now have a much more comprehensive ordinance addressing commercial buildings.Click here for more.

Comprehensive Long Range Plan- This is another issue I have fought for since soon after joining the Council. Click here for more

Holding all Council Meetings- Even before running for Council, I criticized the Council for failing to hold a large number of their regular Tuesday meetings- the meetings where the public is allowed to speak. Click here for more

Downtown Lighting- I served on the committee that studied and came up with a proposal to install the new decorative streetlights downtown. Click here for more.
